Emergency Survival Kit in a Sling Bag

This my survival / emergency kit that can be kept in the trunk of a car or hanging in a closet for immediate grab and go.  It weighs in at 8.6 lbs, including the sling bag.  It is easily a 24 hour overnight kit, but could stretch out to three days (72 hours) or more if you really know what you are doing.  It has shelter, fire starting, signalling, water purification + storage, and first aid components along with a number of extras and redundancies.  The contents pretty much fill out the bag as is.

I wouldn't take this out for a day hike unless I jammed it into my day pack along with a full 1 litre water bottle, juice box, lunch, some snacks, sunscreen, and bug repellent. This kit is pretty comprehensive so it is heavier to handle more situations.  I usually have different gear for day hikes that is lighter in weight with a smaller first aid and survival kits in my pack to save weight going up the mountain. I'd would also have lightweight hiking boots, a hat, fleece jacket, and wind breaker.
