Kumotawa Confluence, My Urban Fantasy Set In Modern Japan Is Finished!
Wow! It has been a long haul to finish this novel, but it is done. This is my second completed novel and third completed book (I have a published Tokyo guidebook, too). I started this novel years ago, before the Great Lockdown and worked on it in my spare time. I've talked about my planning and outlining methodologies before, and this is the culmination of my efforts. Still, it wasn't something I did on my own, and I thank my reviewers and the Edmonton Writers' Group for their help.
Kumotawa Confluence is an urban fantasy novel set in an alternate, modern Japan where magic works near convergence points between different worlds. These weaknesses in space-time are called Confluences, and this novel centres on a particular one, Mount Kumotawa, in the Hiroshima region of the main island of Honshu. It utilizes a rich mix of Japanese culture and mythology to craft a gripping story that starts small and ends big.
I will be serializing the novel first on Royal Road and then on other platforms. An ebook version and a paperback will be published sometime when the serialization is half or 2/3 done, but I expect to serialize the entire novel online to start.

Here is a book blurb about Kumotawa Confluence.
On the fog-shrouded slopes of Mount Kumotawa, a sacred shrine stands guard against an ancient evil. Five hundred years ago, Princess Chikako and her samurai defeated marauding oni here. Legends abound about yokai on this mountain to the present day, and the imperial family continues their vigil.
Yuriko, a former special forces operative turned convenience store manager, knows her job isn’t just about sales and inventory. She finds herself thrust into a world of supernatural intrigue when a mysterious cat leads her onto the slopes of Mount Kumotawa, rising behind the store. Teamed up with her fellow ex-special forces colleague Travis and the stalwart policeman Goro, the trio investigate mysterious incidents on the mountain for the Imperial Management Agency.
As the veil between worlds begins to fray, a malevolent god’s return looms, his sinister minions sowing chaos. At Odewara High School, a spirited band of teenagers—Chiyo, Ayako, Karen, and Sarah, members of the Gun Girls Auxiliary—rise to the challenge, guided by Yuriko's mentorship. But even their courage may not be enough.
Other allies arrive to help as the crisis develops. In a showdown against the forces of darkness, these heroes must stand together to prevent the cataclysmic convergence of worlds. With courage, sacrifice, and friendship, they embark on a journey that will test their limits and determine the fate of the world.
This novel incorporated my love for Japanese anime and manga but with more realism. My intended audience is readers who like urban fantasy, a Japanese setting, and anime/manga. People who like X-files or Supernatural and anime like Gate should like this, too.
