Hi A'Kuan Sesame Broad Noodles Review (Chinese Noodles)

This is the first of a number of Chinese instant noodle products I'll be reviewing in the upcoming months.  A'Kuan noodles have a pretty wide distribution and are quite popular. This company has a large range of products outside of this particular noodle family, too. Chinese noodles have really upped their game in terms of quality, variety, and packaging. There are many interesting and fancier products with extra noodle toppings to go with them that go beyond a packet of dried veggies.

I'm reviewing the A'Kuan Sesame Broad Noodles which are sold in single packages in some places or in packages of 4 up here in Canada. I first heard of these online in a couple of articles and posts and they sure looked good to try. I especially like the milder spicy Sichuan flavour profile and deep sesame flavour for these noodles.

These noodles are advertised to have a tasty blend of rich sesame paste and spicy Sichuan seasoning combined with chewy, broad noodles. The company was established in 2015 and are sold in thirty countries and regions. Noodles in this same family of broad instant noodles include: Broad Noodle Chili Oil Flavor (Hot and Sour), Broad Noodle Chili Oil Flavor, Broad Noodle Spicy Hot Flavor, and of course Broad Noodle Sesame Paste Flavor.

4 Pack of the Sesame Noodles. The packaging white with different colours and noodle pictures for this lineup of noodles. It is plain, but effective in showing the brand and the product. You can see the presentation of the noodles holds a prominent place.

Ingredients and nutritional information.

There are four packages of noodles bundled inside the 4 pack.  They come in this clear wrap with 2 flavouring packets and a package of dried veggies.

You can see the noodles are in a tight puck shape. These are air-dried noodles, not fried.

The noodles are quite light in colour and translucent in appearance. They almost look like a rice noodle, but they are wheat noodles - just flour and water in this case. There is a powder packet, a veggie packet in the middle, and a sesame/Sichuan flavour sauce packet.

You rehydrate the noodles in a bowl of boiling water for 5 minutes or a little longer, so it is like a 3 minute instant noodle in that regard. You then drain the water - leave a little behind to help mix the sauce and powder.  The dehydrated vegetables are an interesting problem. You can either rehydrate them with boiling water in their own little bowl, or put them in with the noodles to rehydrate, but then you'll need a strainer to not lose them when you dump the water. The bits of carrot are tough without proper rehydration.

The sauce and powder and veggies (green onion and carrots) on top of the noodles. You then have to mix well.

The mixed noodles and sauce. Leave a little extra water with the noodles to help the sauce coat the noodles better.

These sauce gave off a sesame aroma and coated the noodles lightly with a slight creaminess. You have mix it well and the large, wide noodles did stick together, requiring some separation with the chopsticks.  The noodles were chewy and had a good bite to them, ensuring you enjoyed the noodles and sauce with every mouthful. The sauce has some zip to it from the Sichuan peppercorns and hot peppers that accentuated the sesame flavour nicely. The heat level is fairly mild and I quite like these noodles. I'll be buying more of this, and it makes for a nice stand-alone noodle dish for a light meal or snack.

I also recently reviewed a noodle with a similar sesame flavour profile, Costco A-Sha Dan Dan Taiwanese Noodles Case Review.
