This Golden Curry is pre-made and ready to eat out of the box. Curry is a popular food to eat in Japan and everyone pretty much eats curry every week. Japanese curry is different from East Indian curries as it is more of a savoury curry stew with chunks of meat, potato, onion, and carrot. S&B is a popular brand of pre-made curry roux that comes in many varieties and ranges from mild, medium, to hot. Being able to buy a pre-made curry sauce that is ready to accompany white rice is very handy, but I do find that fresh or homemade with a factory roux is still better.

The box contains a retort pouch and this is the back that shows the preparation directions. You cannot microwave as it is foil, but you could pour the contents into a bowl to microwave or reheat the pouch in hot water. |
I prepared the curry by microwaving the sauce and some leftover white rice. The curry sauce smelled pretty good with that familiar curry smell that is tantalizingly spicy and savoury. It tasted like normal Japanese curry sauce with a decent heat level and you could see small chunks of potato and little pieces of carrot in it. It could do with some meat, but for a quick meal, it is pretty good. I mixed up the sauce with the leftover rice and had a tasty lunch. I don't think it could hurt to have a pouch or two of this handy when you want curry, but don't want to make it. In Japan there are probably over a hundred varieties of retort pouch curry that you can buy and I'm happy to see that you can now buy a few in Canada.
