Nissin Smoky & Spicy SIO Cup Noodle Review

This Smoky and Spicy Sio Cup Noodle is one of Nissin Japan's fairly recent additions to their regular lineup of Cup Noodles.  I think they used to have another Sio cup that this one replaces.  The Sio flavour is a more savory kind of western soup stock with chicken, herbs, and black pepper.  The final kick to the flavour comes from a packet of smoke olive oil to give it a smokey savoury taste.  I was intrigued so I got one of these to try out.
The packet of oil come attached to the lid of the cup.  The whole thing is shrink wrapped together so there is no danger of losing it.

Top view of the lid.  The smoked olive oil picture and the logo are really the only graphics.
Front view of the cup.  The colors are blue highlights, big black print for the logo and name all on a white background.  It is very much like the regular cup noodle.

Nice deluxe looking gold foil package for your smoked olive oil.
Peeling back the lid reveals lots of noodle toppings.  There are cups of potato, egg, mince chicken cubes,  red pepper, green onins, and cabbage.  A nice stewy assortment of stuff.

Preparing this cup of noodles is pretty straight forward.  Add boiling water to the fill line, close the lid, and wait 3 minutes.  Everything rehydrated nicely in that time, but give it all a good stir.
The rehydrated toppings.  Looks like a nice assortment.

The finished cup of noodles.  Looks delicious.
The broth for this noodle with the oil packet mixed in was pretty good.  There were strong savory tastes along with a mild hit of smokiness.  Salt, pepper, soy, chicken were all blended together for a tasty soup.  I definitely don't prefer it to the regular soy sauce Cup Noodle, but it would be a nice change every so often.  This is one of those things where you like the Curry Cup Noodle, but once in a while you might have the Tomato Chili or the Cheese Curry cup instead.  The chunks of potato and chicken were nice and definitely added color, texture, and flavour to the noodle soup. I would have this again for a nice change of pace, but some people might prefer it more.
