Pokemon Centers - Tokyo Intro: Experience #28 of 55

Pokemon in Japan is big business and these Pokemon Center stores are dedicated to just the Pokemon franchise and its creatures.  Pokemon is an incredibly popular, international, multimedia franchise that has been ongoing since 1996 with the release of Pokemon Red and Blue on the original Gameboy.  The franchise is centered on creatures called Pokémon, of which there is an incredible variety.  Humans can be Pokemon Trainers who catch them and train them to battle each other for sport.

Pokémon has since become the highest-grossing media franchise of all time with $90 billion in total franchise revenue. The original video game series is the second-best-selling video game franchise (behind Nintendo's Mario franchise) with more than 346 million copies sold and one billion mobile downloads, and it spawned a hit anime television series that has become the most successful video game adaptation with over 20 seasons and 1,000 episodes in 169 countries. In addition, the Pokémon franchise includes the world's top-selling toy brand, the top-selling trading card game with over 28.8 billion cards sold, an anime film series, a live-action film, books, manga comics, music, merchandise, and a theme park. Pokemon Centers carry a wide range of Pokemon merchandise, some of which are: snacks, cup of noodles, plushies, keychains, dishes, clothes, games, and jewelry.  If you’re into Pokemon, you will find these stores very cool and will find something here to buy.  The stores range from small to very large and also have life-size statues of Pokemon which are different at each store.  Various stores will have exclusive merchandise dedicated to that store too.

The stores in Tokyo are at:
  • Pokemon Center TOKYO DX, Nihonbashi, in the Takashimaya department store.  This is the largest center in Tokyo, which has giant Snorlax statue, and a Pokemon Cafe!
  • Tokyo Station (small store)
  • Pokemon Center SKYTREE TOWN, Sumida at the Solamachi Mall under the Skytree.  There is giant statue of a Rayquaza here with Pikachu on it.
  • Pokemon Mega Center, Ikebukuro, in the Sunshine City Mall.  Giant statue of Charizard with Pikachu on it.
