Myojo Foods Karaage Shoyu Ramen Cup Review

Karaage with your instant ramen is a combination of two favourite foods that sounds a little fatty and very tasty.  These looked very appealing on the shelf and I was sold from just seeing it.  I've had some instant noodle cups before that add in fried chicken bits as toppings to your instant noodles.  You don't end up with crispy chicken as the battered pieces get soggy when they rehydrate, but the flavour is usually pretty good.  With this said, I had some good expectations for this noodle cup.

This Karaage Shoyu Cup from Myojo has a very bold graphic design.  The logos and name of the ramen cup are done up in bright yellow with red borders on a dark black background.  The chicken karaage pieces along with the egg and ramen soup occupy a good chunk of the foreground.  The design really pops with the contrast between the bright ramen bowl presented and the black of the background.

Preparation directions.  You need to pour in boiling water up to the fill line and let it sit for 5 minutes as the noodles are thicker than normal.
Opening the lid shows plenty of toppings.  Lots of karaage bits, egg, and green onion.
After adding the boiling water, you can see everything rehydrates nicely and looks delicious!

This ramen had a very nice soy sauce smelling broth. It was fragrant and I thought it had a distinct chicken scent to it.  The thicker noodles rehydrated well and had a nice chew due to their thickness.
There were plenty of karaage pieces, egg bits, and green onion.  I definitely was satisfied by the amount of toppings as you could barely see the noodles underneath.  I gave everything a good stir to make sure the soup base was mixed in and tasted the soup.  There were rich notes hinting at plenty of umami with a bit of a peppery note to the soup from black pepper.  It was a savoury soy based broth and it was quite tasty.  The karaage was fried in thin battered strips.  It turns out that they were not chicken, but a soy protein.  These battered soy nuggets were a decent simulation of soggy karaage despite not being as meaty as real meat and a little chewy.  This was a decent instant noodle cup and the simulated karaage was pretty good.  I had two of these cups so I'm very glad it was good!
