UFO Koi Negishio (salted beef short rib and green onion flavour) yakisoba is a new summer flavour for 2023 and it is probably just for the summer months. Nissin always has a variety of UFO yakisoba products at any time, and I found this one at a Japanese market in Calgary. The Nissin Japan website says "rich and delicious salt-grilled soba with the aroma of beef and green onion oil." Karubi is a cut of short rib often found in yakiniku grilling. This sounds pretty good to me. I haven't said this for awhile, but these are called UFO as the containers are shaped like the upside down pie pan flying saucers of the 1950s. I guess the 2020s edition should be called UAPs if you want to update the name!

This particular UFO yakisoba is actually a pretty eye-catching green and black design. I'm not sure why they chose this packaging colour scheme, but I'd guess it had to do with summer and cabbage and the grass that the cows eat? The green is a really nice shade and it contrasts nicely against the black background with the judicious use of white highlights.

The top of the bowl. UFO bowls are all covered in a thin plastic wrap with the graphics on them. The UFO logo occupies the the central top half of the image with a photo of grilling short ribs with onions behind it. The bottom half shows a delicious looking yakisoba with lots of meat and cabbage. |

The lid of the bowl underneath the wrap. It has detailed instructions on how to prepare the bowl. Follow the numbered directions. Do not remove the lid until the very last step after you drain the water! |

Opening the lid part of the way to take out the sauce packet and fill it with boiling water. |

Liquid sauce packet you are supposed to warm on the lid. The sauce has a light viscosity to it from the oil that was flavoured with green onion, bbq meat, and salt. |
To prepare, add boiling water to rehydrate the noodles. Let it sit for 3 minutes with the lid closed. Then peel off the tab that covers the drainage holes to pour out all of the water. Peel the lid off now and add in the sauce packet. Mix and you are ready to eat!

After mixing in the sauce the noodles smelled very much like grilled BBQ with savoury and sweet smelling soy sauce. There was a meaty aroma that was quite tantalizing. The sauce covered noodles had a light taste that was mild, yet still flavourful. There was definitely a fragrant beef and green onion flavour to the sauce! This is a nice change from regular yakisoba. There was an adequate amount of cabbage and little meat squares too that gave the noodles a nice addition, The noodles are your typical UFO noodle that has a nice chew and clean bite to them. A very nice bowl of fried noodles. The fact that the noodles are deep fried to make them instant noodles actually works really well with yakisoba noodles that are supposed to be pan/teppan fried anyways!
