Ace Cook Chainsaw Man Yakisoba Review
I'm just presenting a really quick review today. I picked up this Chainsaw Man Squid Yakisoba in the early fall and gave it a try. Unlike many instant yakisoba noodles that come in pans or trays, I've seen Ace Cook put them in the noodle bowls instead. It still works okay, so the form factor isn't a big deal. I kind of like the fact it is a tie-in between squid yakisoba and Chainsaw Man. Squid is one of those tasty (and fishy) animals that has a strange body form, is squishy, and has tentacles. It kind of matches the alien forms of the monsters or devils from the anime.

The lid of the yakisoba is absolutely covered in text. You have a 70th anniversary graphic for Ace Cook, a chainsaw, a ghost squid, an the little Pochita devil that dies early in the anime to save his friend. There is so much text it looks like the cover of a weekly manga magazine. It is nice spicy squid flavour and the yakisoba noodles are shown covered in dark sauce! There were several varieties of noodles related to the Chainsaw Man collab of which this is just one.
You get a noodle block along with two sachets. One for the sauce and the other for the furukake or toppings for the yakisoba. |
The toppings for the bowl. There are plenty of little dried bits of carrot, squid, big tempura, and lots of chili flakes. |
When I opened the toppings pouch it did not smell seafoody. The sauce itself had a bit of a tart and herbal smell. I rehydrated the noodles with boiling water for three minutes and then drained the water. I then added the sauce packet and the toppings and mixed them all together. The high walls of the bowl made this easier.
After mixing everything together the noodles were coated with the brown sauce, but didn't look anything like the photo on the lid. The noodles tasted SPICY! Quite zippy for a Japanese noodle. It was a medium heat that hit right away. It definitely built up over the time I ate the noodles. There was only a light squid taste to the sauce and the spiciness definitely masks it to some extent. If you like seafood and spice, this noodle is for you and it was on the hot end of devilishly yummy for me.
