Yamadai New Touch Shinshu Miso Ramen Bowl Review

This is the fifth review of a ramen from the Yamadai New Touch Amazing Noodles Summer Fukubako Eastern Japan Ramen Box 2024.  I've really enjoyed eating my way through this box so far and wouldn't hesitate to buy another whenever they are available in Canada. You have tonkotsu, shoyu, and miso ramen as the top three Japanese flavour families for ramen soup. Today, I'm reviewing the Shinshu Miso Ramen Bowl which highlights a regional ramen from Nagano Prefecture in west-central Honshu (the big island). I really enjoy miso ramen in general because they have a hearty flavour and are filling.  

The soup base uses Shinshu miso, a milder yellow miso, and has Bunashimeji mushrooms (tiny mushrooms that grow in a clump like a flower bouquet) and other ingredients, all from Nagano Prefecture.

The lid of the ramen bowl.  It shows an entire bowl of ramen noodle soup with the rim of a ceramic bowl.  It really focuses on the soup rather than having regional icons or graphics on the lid like some of the other bowls.  Seems less gimmicky this way, but it is nice to see these regionalisms.
The bowl's lid shows a creamy-looking golden broth with hints of red chili oil, some type of choy, mushrooms, and some pork nuggets.  It does look very tasty.  The big red characters say "Shinshu Miso" with the smaller text in yellow saying uses Shinshu miso.  A packet of the shichimi pepper is shown in the bottom right hand corner.

Manufacturing info and warnings. I know they need to put these warnings on, but sometimes it is like seeing a warning on a bag of nuts that say this bag contains nuts.  You shouldn't nuke these kinds of plastic, etc.

Background info for you to read while eating the noodles.  I've already mentioned some of the items. The product is full of Nagano ingredients, including shichimi pepper from Yawataya Isogoro, which is known as one of the three major shichimi peppers in Japan. You can add shichimi pepper from the beginning, or you can add it later to enjoy the change in taste and aroma.

I put in the dried ingredients and added boiling water to the fill line and let it sit for 5 minutes with the lid down.

After rehydrating I added the miso soup base and gave it all a good stir.

When I first opened the bowl it smelled like wheat noodles.  This is always a good smell rather than none or some other odour. After preparing the soup, there was a nice, rich miso smell that had a slight tangy note. There was only the slightest smell of mushrooms. The soup also had garlic and herb notes. Bits of mushroom and Choy floated in the soup. There were these tiny pork meatballs that were meaty and tasted good. The tiny mushrooms tasted like mushrooms and had a crunchy chew. Noodles are a little broader as they are thick noodles. They had a nice bite and bounce to them. The shichimi pepper is zippy. A little of it goes a long way and it is hot and numbing. I tried the little packet of garlic chili sauce in the remaining soup at the end. There is an immediate kick to it that like doubled the heat and I only put in a quarter of it. It is a red paste and red means danger! Heavy garlic to it!  Very tasty soup and noodles is my final conclusion for this.
