Peyoung Super Large Tenkasu MAX Yakisoba Review

I got this Peyoung Super Large Tenkasu MAX Yakisoba last year on sale for the price of regular sized instant yakisoba noodles. They were large portions of noodles to say the least. Peyoung yakisoba are a staple in Japan, showing up on store shelves in their white packaging. They also jazz up their fried noodle offering by combining different flavours and ingredients. In this case, the yakisoba is their standard yakisoba flavour jazzed up by being super-sized and full of tempura bits to give it some light crunch! 

In their own words "We have developed a product with a fun texture that uses plenty of crispy tempura. There are three types of tenkasu used: plain, with blue, and red ginger flavor. In addition to the crispy texture, each flavor is an accent, so you can enjoy it without getting bored until the end." Tenkasu are savory, crunchy, deep-fried flour batter bits used as a topping or ingredient in Japanese cuisine.

It is a large rectangular package that shows a dude enjoying noodles on the left, but he actually is a bit hard to make out compared to the boldy displayed dish of yummy looking fried noodles covered in tenkasu. The forground of the restaurant picture is a teppan grill with some lifters on the right side for cooking the noodles.

Once you peel off the plastic wrap which typically has all the decoration for instant yakisoba, you'll see a lid with directions. Never peel this lid off all the way as there are drain holes to drain out the water used for rehydrating the noodles. It is bigger than the regular yakisoba as you can see in the picture.

Just follow the directions from A to C for the different steps.

Peel the lid back from A to B and extract the contents. You get a sauce packet, a packet of tenkasu, and another of cabbage (cabbage is classic with yakisoba). You can see it is a double sized noodle from the two noodle blocks inside the bowl.

After pouring in boiling water and waiting for 3 mins, you peel the corner back at C and drain out all the water. This isn't soup, it is fried noodle. I then poured in the sauce and mixed it all up.

Last step was to add in the tenkasu. It is a nice display of colours on top of the noodles.

These noodles lived up to expectations and it was a very filling meal - you are eating twice the amount of noodles as a regular serving. The yakisoba sauce tasted savory, a little sweet and went well with the noodles which had a good bite and chew. The tempura bits were crunchy and the flavour of the ginger was subtle. It made for a tasty meal, and yeah, I would get this again if I saw it.
