Sanyo Sapporo Yakisoba - Hiroshima Style Tan Tan Men

Here is another yakisoba style soup-less instant noodle review that is a Hiroshima-style Soupless Tan Tan Men.  Tan Tan noodles are a spicy Szechuan dish with Szechuan peppercorns (different from your regular peppercorns).  The sauce for this fried noodle dish is a soy / oyster sauce with a spicy kick to it.  Mixed in with the noodles are cabbage, and chili peppers.

Top of the Yakisoba noodle box.  Attractively labelled with bold white print across a dark black band.  The deep red floral background is both elegant and indicates heat.  The noodles look attractively style in a circular layout with well placed pieces of green cabbage as highlights.

Bottom of the box with preparation directions and nutritional information.
Side of the package with ingredients and manufacturing information.
After removing the outer plastic packaging, you can see a foil lid on top of a styrofoam tray.  The lid has more preparation directions and warnings printed on it.  I like the big pour boiling water in and let it sit for three minutes direction in green on the lower left side.  This thing is well labelled in Japanese.
You only peel the lid back to the green line starting from the point marked A.  This allows you to take the package of sauce and peppercorn powder out.  It reveals a big block of noodles.  The other dried ingredients settle under the noodle block.
Add boiling water into the fill line and close the lid.  After waiting three minutes, peel the opposite end tab off to reveal some drainage slits.  The noodles and dried ingredients are fully rehydrated and you need to drain off ALL of the water.  The slits prevent the noodles, cabbage, and meat from sliding out.
After draining, empty the sauce and seasoning powder packets into the noodles and mix well.
The noodles and sauce mixed together well.  The noodles had a tasty looking coating of sauce and there was a faint spicy pepper smell to it along with the soy / oyster sauce.  The noodles were your regular noodles in thickness with a nice chew.  There was flavourful  savoury taste to the noodles amped up by the a  chili / peppery taste.  I'd buy these again for sure.  There are not a ton of toppings on this noodle dish, but fried noodles are always kind of tasty.
