I found this relatively new series of noodle cups from Ace Cook awhile back in the spring. These noodle cups break a bit of new ground by enhancing their umami from a new source! I picked up a Aomori Shoyu and Miso version of a new "Tasteful" series of instant noodle cup.
The term "mottenai" is used in describing this new line of noodles. Mottenai means food waste reduction and they use it with the slogan "Let's turn waste into deliciousness". Ace Cook is trying to help reduce food waste by utilizing food components that would otherwise be thrown away or put into the organics bin guess. This line of noodles is part of a national project called the "NO-FOODLOSS-PROJECT". So, does food waste prevention make tasty noodles? Read on to find out.

Mackeral Shoyu Cup Noodle. Funny how soy sauce flavour is often represented by the colour blue on the packaging.

Shoyu Ramen
This is pretty much a standard shoyu ramen except for the addition of the extra sauce packet. These Ace Cook noodles cups are fairly common and tasty even without the extra sauce.

There's a Japanese flag / smiley face under the sauce packet on the lid. Characters say "Let's Turn Waste Into Deliciousness."

The soup turned a nice light brown with the addition of the sauce packet.

This shoyu noodle cup tasted pretty good. The sauce did add quite bit of flavour, making it more savoury with lots of umami. There is definitely a slightly fishy taste, but it is a seafood shoyu, so not unexpected. Quite tasty and a good use for otherwise underutilized catch. The noodles had a good chew and were firm. They are slightly thicker than normal instant noodles, but I think they are standard on these types of Ace Cook cups.
Miso Ramen
This cup is a miso flavoured noodle cup that has a mackerel based sauce packet. The two sauce packets were different colours, so I'm guessing it is a slightly different formulation for each type.

This cup of noodle had a good miso flavour with a bit of seafood enhancement to it. Definitely a good tasting soup base with bit of that seafood taste. You have to like both miso and fish I guess to enjoy this one and I did. The noodles were thicker than regular instant noodles, but not by a lot. As with the shoyu cup, they came out nice and firm with a good chew. A good tasting instant noodle.
