KiKi Noodles With Crispy Garlic and Seafood Sauce Review

Kiki is a well known Taiwanese brand that is popular there and in Hong Kong.  Many celebrities like this brand.  They have over half a dozen different varieties of noodles and I picked up a package of their Crispy Garlic and Seafood Sauce noodles which are like a lo mein or a mixed noodle that is not a soup noodle.

The noodles are air dried in the sun for a couple of days and flipped every few hours so it is a labour intensive process to make these premium noodles.  The noodles are made of 100% flour and water and this process allows the noodles to be chewy and bouncy after cooking.  The sauces do have additives for flavour or preservation  though.

The noodles come in a classy looking green and red coloured cardboard box.  The picture shows dry noodles coated in a sauce that has crab, shrimp, garlic and chilies.  Note the little bowl of soup on the side.
The back of the box with English and Chinese directions.  These noodles need to be boiled for six minutes.  The water is drained and then you mix in the sauce.
A package of broad noodles is enclosed in a plastic tray and wrapper.
You get a noodle block that is not rock hard - it has a bit of malleability - more like a dried fresh noodle.  There is a soup base packet, a packet of the garlic seafood sauce, a packet of spicy oil, and a packet of the crispy garlic chips.
All of the ingredients laid out.  Note the spicy oil packet.

After the noodles were cooked and plated I opened the seafood and garlic sauce.  There was a pungent smell of musty seafood and a strong garlic smell.  This is not a dish to eat before kissing a loved one who has not eaten this too!  After mixing it I then added the chili oil and mixed everything.  Finally I topped it with plenty of fried garlic bits!

A strong seafood taste came from the chicken, crab, and shrimp powders in the sauce. The taste of the sauce had a slight sharp tang followed by a mild heat. There is a bit of vinegar and there is hefty garlic taste to the sauce. The garlic added a bit of crunch to every bite of noodles and additional garlic flavour.  The noodles are of a good quality and were a nice al dente with a bounce to the chew. There is complex umami flavour to the sauce.  I only added half a pack of the chili oil and that was more than enough for me!  The soup was bland and mainly tastes like cabbage.  Bit of green and lots of cabbage and carrot in the vegetable mix.  This veggie broth provides some relief and a break from the spiciness and richness of the noodles.  I'm not a fan of the soup though.  The garlic seafood noodles were definitely tasty, but not something I would have every day.
