Nissin Noodle Craftsman Miso Ramen Bowl Review

Sometimes, I'm surprised to find some varieties of Japanese noodles on the supermarket shelf over here in Canada. Finding these Nissin Noodle Craftsman Miso and Shoyu bowls counts towards this. I've seen Cup Noodles and some of their other varieties, but this is a first for the Craftsman lineup.

For this review, I'm taking a look at the Craftsman Miso Ramen Bowl. I've never tried anything that is part of this product line, so it is always nice to have something new. These bowls feature"Gochiso Non-Fried Noodles" with whole wheat flour and "Shinshu Rice Miso" soup with the mellow richness of salt koji and a sesame aroma, along with the taste of vegetables.

3/4 view of the bowl.
The lid of the bowl.  The bowl has traditional designs in orange and green. The orange accentuates the reddish-brown miso soup bowl that occupies the centre of the image. I like how it has this tidy dollop of vegetables in the middle and some noodles coated in a layer of soup at the bottom.

The lid goes on in almost any orientation as the bowls rotate on the assembly line, and the lid is stuck randomly.

Preparation directions for the air-dried noodles. 4 minutes to rehydrate them in boiling water.

Ingredients and manufacturing information.

The contents of the bowl.  Air-dried noodle block, a soup base paste sachet, and a sachet of dried vegetables.

The dried vegetables on the noodles.  They need to rehydrate, too. The veggies and miso kind of go together as miso is a healthy ingredient.  There is green onion, cabbage, carrot, and corn.

The rehydrated noodles in boiling water.  I added the miso paste and stirred it in after the 4 minutes.

The final soup.  The veggies have scattered to the 4 winds, but they are still there.

This is a dark brownish-red soup.  It uses red miso, which has a strong, earthy aroma. The air-dried noodles are always nice and have a texture and consistency that is closer to fresh, non-fried noodles. These noodles are thinner and take 4 minutes to rehydrate. The noodles have a nice chew to them with a squishy firmness, and they are good noodles.

I have to say this is one of the stronger instant miso ramen, and it is quite tasty with that earthier umami.  The broth has a nice deep flavour and definite miso taste that is strong but not overpowering. There is a slight hint of salt in the aftertaste.  The corn, green onion, cabbage, and spinach are a nice touch for vegetable accompaniment. The craftsman bowl has some good-tasting soup, and it is lighter to have than regular fried noodles.  I'd recommend this.
