Nissin Premium Curry Cup Noodle with Truffle Oil Review

This is the third of three reviews about the premium Cup Noodles released by Nissin in the summer of 2024 for a limited run that went into the fall.  There was a version for the regular cup of noodles (shoyu), the curry noodles (a big fan favourite), and seafood noodles. Every one of these came in a golden cup with a gold foil top and the big characters in gold print 特上 for special / premium on a black background.  The regular logo for each type of cup was in their standard fonts and colour underneath.

When I found these deluxe noodle cups on the shelf, I had to get one of each to try and this review is for the Premium Curry Cup Noodle with Truffle Oil.  I believe these premium cups sold for about 259 yen instead of the usual 236 yen (premium = +10% more) than the original versions and they use the same regular cup size, not the BIG cup size.

This cup is special because of the truffle oil, extra spices, and potatoes that still have their skin on. Curry cup noodles are famous for the big pieces of dehydrated potato in them and their classic curry flavour. I'm expecting a richer curry flavour, not spicy heat, experience from the truffle oil and additional flavourful spices.

Front of the cup.  It's gold so it's premium!

3/4 view of the cup.

Lid of the cup.  This makes 3 out of 3 for the flavour oil sachets being very well glued and all of them ripped the picture on the lid!

Truffle oil.

The topping on the noodles when dry.

So happy! Larger pieces of mystery meat (not really a mystery - it is seasoned ground pork)

Fragrant truffles with rich buttery curry.

Nutritional information.

Ingredients, allergens, preparation directions, and manufacturers info.  The backs of these cups are so information dense that I rotated the cup and did a panoramic shot to get it all in one go.

The ingredients of the cup.  You can see the larger meat cubes - they broke up a bit, and potato in this picture along with lots of noodles.

The rehydrated noodles and meat. The gloopy stuff is the truffle oil in the middle.

I have to say that this one and the shoyu cups were the best out of the three premium noodle cups I tried.
There were plenty of big potato pieces and bigger meat cubes in this one (if they didn't fall apart). There were bits of carrot and green onion mixed in.  It is pretty much like their regular curry flavour that is of a strong mild or a mild medium spiciness and I thought there was a bit of an herbal note to the curry. The flavour oil gave it a more buttery and mushroomy smell and taste. I think it was definitely an amped up version of the regular curry.  The noodles for the curry are a bit wider and thinner than the regular noodles found in the cups. A nice change in the taste experience for their very popular curry noodle and I quite like the regular curry noodle too.
