Maruchan Beef Yakiniku Yakisoba Noodle Bowl Review

This nifty yakisoba style beef yakiniku noodle bowl from Maruchan was a great little find at T&T. I actually cannot find it right now on the Toyo Suisan / Maruchan Japan website so I think it is was a limited time item. The bowl shape is just like their soup noodles for their 麺づくり (Make Noodles) line of bowls except the lid is different to allow you to drain the water away.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this, so tasting it was going to be a surprise. Beef yakiniku consists of  bite-sized, thinly sliced pieces of beef that are grilled and then dipped in sweet and savory soy-based sauce (tare) or other dipping sauces. If you ever do this in person, expect a savoury beefy aroma to fill the air and then there is the rich smell of the tare mixed in too. BBQ is absolutely delicious, so any ramen bowl that simulates this has a lot to live up to!

Angle view of the bowl.

View of the lid of the bowl. The theme is beef and tare so brown colours dominate. The bottle on the left side is pouring out a soy based tare and the yellow characters say 'Yakiniku sauce flavour.' The picture on the right half show oil coated noodles with some beef and green vegetable. Looks promising. The yellow at the bottom says Drain the water. Without soup.

Front side of the bowl so you can tell it is Yakiniku noodles from the side.

Preparation directions. Take out the packets, put in the meat/vegetables, fill with boiling water, let it sit for 5 minutes, drain out the drain holes, mix in the sauce and eat.

The rehydrated noodles and beef with the yakiniku sauce mixed in.

When the sauce was added in there was a really beefy yakiniku smell in the air, like grilled beef with soy sauce. It was very aromatic and savoury smelling. The sauce just lightly coats everything and I believe there was beef fat in the sauce packet. Bits of green vegetable and little strips of beef rehydrated well. Taking a bite of the noodles, the flavour was super tasty and full of umami. The noodles had a good bite and chew to them. The beef had a good meat texture and was tender as in a stir-fry. There were only three small pieces of beef though and for some reason, the noodle portion felt small even though it was a regular sized block of noodles. I'm guessing the feeling about small portion size was because it tasted so good and I wanted a bit more.

This was a very satisfying noodle dish and I would recommend trying this if you ever see something like this from Maruchan again.
