My Novel Kumotawa Confluence Is On The Home Stretch

While I'm not blogging or working, I've been writing my second novel, Kumotawa Confluence.  It has been a long haul on this project as it has been underway for three years and I'm finally on the last four chapters.  Even when I'm done writing, there is still editing, cleanups, and the whole publishing process to take care of.

Urban Fantasy – modern Japan
Estimated at 130,000 words.

Kumotawa Confluence Book Blurb

On the fog shrouded slopes of Mount Kumotawa, a sacred shrine stands guard against the stirrings of an ancient evil.  Yuriko, a former special forces operative turned convenience store manager, finds herself thrust into a world of supernatural intrigue when a mysterious cat named Ghost leads her from her shop onto the mountain slopes above the store.  Teamed up with her fellow ex-special forces colleague Travis, and the stalwart policeman Goro, the trio investigate mysterious incidents and protect the nearby town of Odewara from supernatural entities from other worlds.

An early cover concept.

Meanwhile, at Odewara High School, a group of unlikely heroes emerges in the form of Chiyo, Ayako, Karen, and Sarah - the Gun Girls Auxiliary. United by their determination and guided by Yuriko's mentorship, they defend their town from the encroaching darkness.  Supernatural incidents escalate and the veil between worlds grows thinner to let the malevolent god Orochi breach the barriers between worlds again.  If the minions of Orochi succeed, their god will unleash unspeakable horrors upon the Earth.

Princess Tomoe, the sword-wielding daughter of the Emperor, arrives on the scene to form an unlikely alliance with the Gun Girls Auxiliary and the seasoned operatives of SuperQuickly convenience store.  In a showdown against the forces of darkness, these heroes  must stand together to confront Orochi and prevent the cataclysmic convergence of worlds. With courage, sacrifice, and the power of friendship, they embark on a journey that will test their limits and determine the fate of the world.

This novel incorporated my love for Japanese anime and manga, but with a more adult oriented perspective and realism to the writing.  My intended audience is for people who like modern fantasy, a Japanese setting, and anime/manga.  People who like X-files or Supernatural should like this too. While I would like a young adult audience to appreciate it, it is aimed at adults.

I have some of my shorter fiction up on my writing page which is here on this blog.
