I have another UFO spotted and tasted to write about today. This time the classic saucer shape is a soy sauce and spicy mayonnaise yakisoba instant noodle. The classic flavour uses yakisoba sauce (mix of ingredients using soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, etc.) but this one is more of a straight forward soy sauce that will have the mayonnaise to add a bit of tartness and creaminess along with some heat.

The bright yellow colour makes this noodle bowl pop visually. The classic UFO logo is in red with a silver outline to make it look bold and elegant at the same time. The black characters in the background on the top repeat "Soy Sauce Mazisoba" which is written clearly across the bottom in black too. Neat pop art kind of background. The chopsticks showing the noodles and the lightning slash separate the design into two halves with the bottom showing the tasty noodles and mayonnaise bottle. Quite a neat design for the lid.

As usual the directions for preparation are visible on the lid of the bowl after you peel off the outer plastic wrap. |
It comes with a noodle block, dried cabbage, a soy sauce packet (red) and a package of spicy mayonnaise. |
After adding in boiling water and letting it rehydrate, you pour out the water as this is not a soup noodle. I then added the soy sauce. |
The spicy mayonnaise was then added. |
This particular type of UFO noodle used a slightly wider and thicker type of noodle. They had a nice chew to them because of this. Like the regular UFO noodles, all of the noodles were nicely coated with a flavourful mix of the soy sauce and the mayonnaise. There were no bits of meat in this and the only topping was cabbage. Cabbage is pretty much a classic vegetable for yakisoba that does well with dehydration too. The soy sauce was slightly tart and the aroma of soy sauce and a heavier scent of spicy mayonnaise was apparent with any sniff. The noodles tasted like a mildly spicy mayo followed by the umami from the soy sauce. It was a pretty good noodle dish and a low medium burn set in after a few mouthfuls to provide more zip.
