Theme Cafes - Tokyo Intro: Experience #42 of 55

Kawaii Monster Cafe
Tokyo is a city filled with theme cafes for maids, butlers, cats, owls, anime, robots, trains, and other fantasy themes.  They are of varying uniqueness and quality, with most people having good experiences, but you can tell this is not universal from the online reviews.  Cost also varies, ranging from reasonable to quite expensive.  Sometimes you are paying for the atmosphere, with food coming second, so set expectations appropriately.  Japan's Covid shutdown was not good for many tourist attractions and many theme cafes were also casualties.

Below are a few of the many cafes:
  • Alcatraz ER is a restaurant where you are locked up in a medical prison. Adult themes.
  • Alice in Wonderland Cafes such as Alice in a Labyrinth (Ginza) and Alice in a Magical Land (Shinjuku) with Wonderland themes to the food and decor.
  • Artnia, Square Enix Cafe, for videogame fans of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
  • Gundam Cafe (Akihabara) for Gundam fans.
  • Cafe de Miki with Hello Kitty (Divercity, Odaiba). British theme with Hello Kitt
  • Candleblum Café (Kabukicho).  A gothic maid cafe.
  • Eorzea Cafe (Akihabara) with a Final Fantasy theme.
  • Cafe Kawaii Monster Cafe (Harajuku).  Psychedelic interior and a brief show.
  • Luida’s Bar (Roppongi) for Dragon Quest fans.
  • Neko Cafe Mocha (Harajuku) is a spacious and nicely designed cat cafe.
  • Niagara Curry Restaurant is an old fashioned curry house with lots of train memorabilia.
  • Ninja Restaurant (Akasaka) looks like a village on the inside and ninja serve you.
  • Osamu Tezuka Shop and Café (Asakusa) with Tezuka’s characters like Astro Boy and Black Jack.
  • Peanuts Cafe (Meguro)  Charlie Brown and gang themed cafe.
  • Pokemon Cafe (Nihonbashi) with Pokemon themed decor and food.
  • Robot Restaurant and Cabaret (Shinjuku).  This is a very popular tourist attraction with the main draw being the loud and spectacular girls and robots dancing show.
