Kappabashi Street - Tokyo Intro: Experience #20 of 55

A giant chef's head sit on top of a building to indicate you have found Kitchen Town or Kappabashi Street.  The big head is located at the south end of the street.

While the street has a kappa, a legendary water monster as a mascot, it is mainly a coincidence in the street names that brought this about.  A kappa is an aquatic spirit that is kind of like a humanoid turtle that likes eating cucumbers and has to keep a divot on the top of its head full of water or it will die.

Cooking aficionados from around the world flock here to buy Japanese cooking equipment, and everything you need to run a restaurant is available on this street.  You will find pretty much anything you would need for a kitchen here along with Japanese cooking implements.

Both large and small supply stores line the street and some of the side streets.  You can find your rectangular tamago omlette pans, specialty coffee supplies for your Hario coffee makers, expensive and cheap dishes and bowls, hand crafted kitchen knives, and much more.
