Shibuya Crossing - Tokyo Intro: Experience #33 of 55
This is the world famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing outside the major exit from Shibuya Station. Pedestrians scramble across the intersection from five different corners at the same time before the vehicular traffic takes turns through the intersection. It was reported that the intersection moves up to 2500 pedestrians in each scramble during busy times. A scramble crossing is an efficient way to move the quarter to half a million people that pass through each day.
The scramble crossing is a great place to watch the flow of people through the area and also provides a thrill the first few times you try and cross yourself with the crowds. The intersection is busiest in the evening hours, and don't dawdle in it, as the cars start going pretty quick when it is their turn. A great place to observe the crossing is from the 2nd floor of the Starbucks in the Q Front Building.
Also here is the famous Hachiko dog statue, which is a popular meeting up spot. Hachiko is famous for being the loyal dog who waited daily for its owner to come home, but his owner had passed away years earlier.
